What is a metric thread?

A metric thread is a type of thread standard, also known as a metric thread. The biggest difference from English threads is that pitch is measured in millimeters. Metric threads come in several types, including regular threads (with a profile angle of 60°), trapezoidal threads (with a tooth angle of 30°), serrated threads (with a tooth angle of 33°), and square tooth threads. Metric threads are represented by pitch, while American and British threads are represented by the number of threads per inch. This is their biggest difference.

Metric threads have a 60-degree equilateral profile, British threads have an isosceles 55-degree profile, and American threads have a 60-degree profile. Metric threads are measured in metric units, while American and British threads are measured in imperial units. Metric threads are widely used, especially in European and Asian countries, as a standard thread for connecting mechanical parts.

They include two types: coarse metric threads and fine metric threads, with coarse threads suitable for high-load connections and fine threads suitable for low-load connections. The use of metric threads helps standardize production and design, reduce production costs, and improve production efficiency.

Material

The function and material of metric nuts

A metric nut is a fastener that matches metric threads. Its main function is to tightly secure components connected by these threads, ensuring connection safety and stability. Metric nuts typically have a hexagonal shape for easy tightening or loosening with a wrench. Carbon steel nuts offer many advantages, including high hardness, good strength, excellent ductility, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

These qualities make carbon steel nuts widely used in engineering and mechanical component connections. They are also easy to process and heat treat during manufacturing, and their relatively low cost makes them an economical and practical choice.

Application Scenarios of Metric Nuts

Metric nuts have a broad range of applications across various fields, including machinery, construction, automotive, aerospace, and more. In these sectors, metric nuts are commonly used as mechanical components, support structures, pipe and fitting fasteners, and connecting parts. Due to their variety, metric nuts can adapt to a wide range of complex connection environments. Their standardized manufacturing also makes them easy to select and replace.
